2024 SENECIO TRAINING SESSIONS

We believe that every individual deserves an opportunity to thrive. We also believe in the power of community and the transformative impact that skills development workshops can have on individuals. With this in mind, we have created a series of training sessions spanning three (3) levels. Each level delves deeper into understanding disabilities and how we can effectively support those affected.


Commitment Fee

  • Level One (18-19 September) | Helderberg Hospice Training Hall, Somerset West: R150 commitment fee per person

  • Level Two (23-24 October) | Coronation Methodist Church, Somerset West: R150 commitment fee per person

  • Level Three (19-20 November) | Helderberg Hospice Training Hall, Somerset West: R150 commitment fee per person

  • All Levels Combined: R300 commitment fee per person

Level One (1): Foundations of Disability Awareness

Dates: 18-19 September


In Level One, we lay the groundwork by addressing fundamental questions such as 'What is a disability?' and exploring how disabilities impact daily activities. This session serves as an introduction to disability rights and offers practical strategies for assisting individuals with disabilities.


Key Topics Covered:

  • Understanding Disabilities: Definitions and Impacts

  • Introduction to Disability Rights: A Primer

  • Practical Strategies for Assistance: Hands-On Approaches


Imagine being equipped with the tools to not only understand but also advocate for individuals with disabilities. This foundational knowledge acts as a stepping stone towards more advanced topics covered in subsequent levels.





 

Level Two (2): Diving Deeper into Neurodiversity and Mental Health

Dates: 23-24 October


Building on the basics from Level One, Level Two takes a closer look at neurodiversity, sensory impairments, and mental health conditions. This session is crucial for those looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of various impairments and how they affect individuals differently.


Key Topics Covered:

  • Neurodiversity: Intellectual Impairment, CP, Epilepsy, ADHD, FASD, Down Syndrome, CVA/Stroke

  • Sensory Impairments: Visual & Hearing Impairments

  • Mental Health Conditions: General Mental Health, Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Schizophrenia


By the end of this session, you'll be well-equipped to recognize and address the unique challenges faced by individuals with these conditions. Knowledge truly is power, and this session aims to empower you with the insights needed to make a tangible difference.




 


Level Three (3): Crafting Effective Support Programmes

Dates: 19-20 November


Our final level focuses on developing effective support programmes tailored to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. From understanding programme requirements set by DSD & DOH to planning activity programmes that promote beneficiary development—this session has it all.

  • Elements of a Support Programme: Core Components

  • Programme Requirements from DSD & DOH: Compliance Guidelines

  • Definitions & Examples of Activities: Practical Applications

  • Guidelines for Planning an Activity Programme: Step-by-Step Process

  • Beneficiary Development: Record-Keeping & Monitoring Progress


This level is ideal for those who are committed to creating structured support systems that facilitate continuous growth and development among beneficiaries.
