Senecio currently offers services to three distinct groups – children and young adults with physical disabilities in disadvantaged areas and their primary and secondary caregivers.
Children with physical disabilities and their caregiversSince 2008, Senecio has been offering its services at 15 different care centres for children with special needs in the Western Cape. During this time, the lives of more than 400 children and young adults with physical disabilities have been positively impacted.
The organisation’s focus has since shifted to provide services to children and young adults with disabilities who do not have ready access to existing care centres. By establishing outreach clinics and conducting home visits, a greater number of children and young adults who are desperately in need of care and assistance, can be reached. Care centres who do not receive governmental support also benefit from Senecio’s programmes and assistance.
The Ukunakekela (“to care”) Programme has been developed by Senecio therapists to improve the lives of children with physical disabilities through therapeutic intervention and the effective training of their caregivers.
